8/19/2012 -- I am looking at your 8 gallon stainless brewpot with spigot. Is there advantage/disadvantage regarding the stainless vs brass options? Also can you also install a thermometer?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: The stainless vs brass option refers to the spigot.
Functionally, there is no difference. They work the same.
Many people (including breweries) prefer stainless steel because it is tough (durable) and impervious to chemical attack. The drawback is the cost. Brass spigots are less so, and fit more budgets!
Yes, we can easily install a thermometer into your pot. It will require the purchase of a Thru-Wall Fitting as well as the thermometer, of course. We do the installation for free on this pot. See associated products below.
4/8/2012 -- I'm just getting started with home brewing. Friends are all telling me to go with a larger brew pot. I've decided to go with a 10 gallon stainless. Assuming price is no object can you recommend a set up (spigot, thermometer etc.) that will allow me to expand as I gain experience?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: It's confusing, isn't it? I'll try to help with that.
A 10 gallon pot is NICE to have indeed. It works well for a 5-7 gallon batch of EXTRACT beer. Nice indeed. If cost was no object (it always is at my house), I would go with the Blichmann 10 gallon pot.
If however, you ever want to do all-grain brewing (instead of extract brewing) bigger is better. For this you have a fairly large volume of grains which convert into malt sugars (kinda like extract). In addition, a larger volume is more (temperature) stable and the larger volume helps compensate for the extra time spend brewing this way. Make sense?
If you expect to step up to this method of brewing I would go with a 15 gallon (or larger) pot. Again, the Blichmann Engineering Brewpot is top of the line. If your budget comes into play (like mine) then it's worth looking at our 15.5 Gal Brewpot. We are happy to equip it with Thru-wall fittings, spigot, thermometer and even a false bottom.
Again, it's a matter of how you intend to proceed in this interesting hobby...extract or all-grain brewing. Both make excellent beer. It's more a matter of how you attack it!
Hope this helps. If not, let us know and we are happy to help. Brewing is our life!
2/11/2012 -- Can you install a thermowell with a thermometer? What is the actual difference between this conical and a Blichman ?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Not a thermowell exactly, but we can install a Thru-Wall fitting into the side of the fermenter. Into the Thru-Wall Fitting we can screw in a Stainless Thermometer with your choice of stem length. Does the same thing.
Functionally, the Blichmann Fermenators and this one perform the same way. The Blichmann Fermenators offer more choices of options, like leg extensions, casters, blow-off kits, and tri-clamp fittings.
1/15/2011 -- what is the maximum temperature rating of the stainless steel bulkhead fitting?
250 deg F... 350 deg F ..???
Response From Homebrew Heaven: A good question, but hard to answer.
It's really just 2 materials, stainless steel and a rigid washer.
In short, 250 deg F is certainly no problem, and 350 deg F is very likely no problem either.
When used on a brewpot, the washer won't break down unless subjected to a constant direct flame at a distance of about an inch or so. Propane cookers used under a brewpot are not a problem.
5/17/2010 -- what is your phone number?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: We can be reached at (425) 355-8865
Our toll free order is (800) 850-2739
4/5/2010 -- Can this be mounted on the side of a 10 gal plastic mash tun if so what do need.
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Probably, but there are a lot of different 10 gal plastic mash tuns out there. The insulated cooler type (Gott style), plain (thinwall) types etc.
The Brewmometer itself has male 1/2" NPT threads. We've now added an image of the backside of this product to our website. You can see it by clicking on the product name, and then clicking on the blue View Enlarged Image" link to help you visualize the product. Whatever it takes to put a female version of that on the mash tun is what you need.
Our Thru-Wall (bulkhead) Fitting might well do the trick (again, depending on the plastic mash tun). It comes with hard gaskets designed for mounting into brewpots, but you may be able to replace those with plastic or rubber ones for your application.
5/7/2008 -- what are the pros and cons of the stainless bulkhead fitting as opposed to the weldBgone fitting?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: As far as usage, they are the same. Both work well, and provide the same functionality.
If you are ordering a brewpot from us, we will be happy to install the stainless steel bulkhead fitting for you. If you already have a brewpot, and are doing it yourself, the WeldBGone might be easier to install.

9/4/2007 -- i am looking into getting the 7.5 gallon brew pot with the spigot installed. also i'm looking at getting the false bottom as well. do i need the thru wall fitting that it shows with the false bottom or does the false bottom connect with the spigot. looking forward to brewing, thanks!
Response From Homebrew Heaven: You will need the thru wall fitting with both. The false bottom screws into it from the inside, and so does the ball valve (spigot), from the outside.
