And there are cider press companies that still sell(for a hefty price tag) grinders and presses patterned after theold tools. That old-style cidermaking equipment will get the jobdone butit does not get the job done easily or efficiently. Not atall.

After using old-style cidermaking equipment over the years to makemy own fresh-squeezed sweet apple cider, I came to the conclusionthat there had to be a better way. Which is to say, there had to bean easierway, and a more productive way, and a less expensive way.

And so it was that I set out on a personal quest to develop my owncidermaking equipment. I wanted a grinder and press that was easyto build with basic handyman tools and skills, relativelyinexpensive, and very efficient. It took me four cider seasons of tinkeringand testing before I finally had something I was satisfied with. Mygoal was achieved in the fall of 2008. I couldn't be more pleasedwith the results. That's why I call it <b aria-level="0"aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">Whizbang cidermaking."Whizbang" is a dictionary word that means "conspicuous for speed, excellence, or startling effect." Yup, the namefits.

Then I set to work putting my grinder and press designs into planform so that you, your family, and your friends could experiencethe sheer joythat comes with making gallons and gallons of pure, sweet, wholesome apple cider. My 46-page plan book provides complete, easy to understand directions. It was published in March of 2009.The cost of the book is only $18.95"

<img aria-level="0"aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0" border="0" name="apple press"alt="fruit and apple press" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/whizbangpress.jpg" width="239" height="360" />

<img aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0" border="0"name="fruit press for cider making" alt="cider press" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/whizbangpress2.jpg" width="239" height="360" /> <img aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0"aria-setsize="0" border="0" name="Press Plate" alt="Detail of press plate for making cider" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/whizbangpressplate.jpg"width="360" height="239" /> <img aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0"aria-setsize="0" border="0" name="basket press" alt="fruit basket for cider pressing" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/whizbangpress3.jpg" width="304" height="387" />

<img aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0" border="0"name="draining juice" alt="squeezing cider" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/whizbang%20cider%20press.JPG"width="360" height="239" /> <img aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0"aria-setsize="0" border="0" name="hard apple cider glass" alt="hard apple cider glass" src="http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/hombre/images/homebrewcider.JPG" width="288" height="237" />

Visit Winemaking Books to see additional products in this category.

It’s the perfect opportunity to experiment with flavors, have fun playing with chemistry, and share a few tasty bottles with friends and family. But safely fermenting, bottling, and aging wine is a demanding process requiring special equipment, impeccable sanitation, an understanding of chemical reactions, and the patience to see the aging process through to the end. No matter how experienced the home winemaker, unforeseen questions develop with every batch of new wine. When a winemaker has problems with leaky corks or finds an oily film on top of his fermenting wine, what’s the simplest, quickest way to get an answer? The Wine Maker’s Answer Book is a 24/7 helpline with advice on hundreds of winemaking dilemmas. From the basic curiosity of the novice (What equipment will I need to get started?) to the finer points of fermentation (What is the impact of malolactic fermentation on acidity?), every step of the process is covered in detail. Author Alison Crowe uses a friendly question-and-answer format to explain the mysteries of turning grape juice into wine, whether the reader is beginning with fresh grapes or a home winemaking kit. To the straightforward requests for information, she offers detailed descriptions of procedures and equipment. For stickier real-life problems, she first carefully assesses the possible causes and then gives expert advice on fixing the trouble. Covering the entire range of situations a winemaker is likely to face, this handy, at-a-glance reference will make every batch of wine taste better.

Visit Winemaking Books to see additional products in this category.

The two most certainlygo hand in hand, however, if you are just interested in improvingyour knowledge of growing grapes, then it provides much veryusefull information. On the other hand, if you are a new oraspiring winemaker, the section on making wine is filled with up todate, smart information, and can also be a stand alone reference towinemaking. By combining the two related fields, grape growing(specifically for winegrapes), and winemaking the winemaker willbetter understand what he should be looking for in winegrapes forhis resulting wine. Conversely, the grape grower will have anunderstanding of how to grow his grapes to achieve the bestpossible product for the winemaker.

Visit Winemaking Books to see additional products in this category.

He had been having dinner withhis editor, who said they needed someone to write a book about homewinemaking and did Joel know anyone who made wine and could write?Luckily, Mr. Rosenberg did, and that's how the book came about. So,if you are an aspiring writer, in addition to your day job, youshould have a hobby or two just in case.

I tried to write a book which answered all the questions I had as abeginning wine maker. I tried to cover as many bases as I couldwithout being confusing. And I tried to incorporate answers to allthe questions people had ever asked me about making wine. Theemphasis is on fruit wines, rather than grape wines, and on havingfun.

Sure, you can be more serious and scientific about things, if youwant, but really, if you can follow a cake recipe, or make jam, youcan make wine. You don't need a mansion with a wine cellar, youdon't need a degree in winemaking, you don't need to be able tospeak French (although French is a fine language and worthknowing). You just have to have some knowledge and a few simpleingredients, and you're off to a fine start!

<font aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0" size="2"face="Verdana">The Joy of Home Winemaking is your comprehensiveguide to:
the most up-to-date techniques and equipment
readily available and affordable ingredients andmaterials
aging, bottling, racking, blending, andexperimenting
dozens of original recipes for great-tasting fruitwines,
spice wines, herb wines, sparkling wines, sherries, liqueurs
even homemade soda pop!
a sparkling brief history of winemaking
helpful illustrations and glossary
an extensive mail-order resource section

Visit Winemaking Books to see additional products in this category.
