7/17/2009 -- Is a 5 gallon carboy big enough to secondary ferment a 5 gallon batch of beer?

7/21/2008 -- how exactly does the fermentap attach to the carboy without leaking or pulling out?

1/26/2008 -- I live about an hour (if traffic is good) from the address on your website. Do you have an actual store or is everything here based solely online?

9/1/2007 -- In many of the questions you stress secondary fermentation only. Doesn't this pretty much remove all the advantages of having this unit? Trub stay buring primary fermentation, ship have to transfer to secondary, no easier to harvest yeast, etc.... 9/10/2005 -- I am considering the fermtrap. So does this mean that I would not need a secondary fermentor. I could use the 1 5 gallon carboy to do first . . .

1/20/2007 -- I think the main purpose for using the Fermentap is to seperate the yeast sediment from the beer. Is this really possible with any angle/slope at the carboy neck ?

5/10/2006 -- Why don't you post a real picture of it instead of a drawing?

2/27/2006 -- I notice that it mentions "yeast harvesting" on the diagram above. How is this done, and how does a brewer keep the yeast alive without developing bad traits in the yeast?

9/26/2005 -- I am about to purchase the deluxe kit. when I noticed the fermentap unit. my questions is what is the racking cane (C22A) and what it does?

9/18/2005 -- Can I use the Fermentap cap to transfer to a cornie keg: under co2 pressure or is it better to let gravity do the job.

9/10/2005 -- I am considering the fermtrap. So does this mean that I would not need a secondary fermentor. I could use the 1 5 gallon carboy to do first and secondary fermantation?

5/16/2005 -- i am new to this, and i have seen and heard of people using plastic buckets for final fermentation, their purpose for doing this is so they can attach a spigot to the bucket for bottling, is this ok to do or is glass the better choice? thanx again and i find that you question and answer part of the site to be very helpful

3/13/2005 -- I'm just getting started brewing and I had a question. As a primary fermenter which is better, plastic bucket, plastic carboy or glass carboy. Then for secondary fermentation, plastic carboy or glass carboy?

1/13/2005 -- Does the Fermatap allow the yeast and sediment to be drawn off from the fermenting beer through one valve while another valve draws off the finished beer when it's time to bottle? Or does gravity prevail and due to the heavier weight of the spent yeast, it accumulates at the bottom, sediment is drawn first and then later the beer for bottling all through same valve?

12/11/2004 -- Will this work on smaller (3 gal) carboys. Fermentap Unit

9/29/2004 -- This looks like a great product, but I am unclear about its operation. Are you able to use a 6.5 gallon carboy with it for both primary and, after removing sediment, secondary fermentation? Or are you limited to using a 5 gallon carboy in which case a separate primary fermenter needs to be used. It seems to me the former situation is really the most desirable and really makes the unit worthwhile. . . .

6/23/2004 -- as soon as i showed this to the wife she just lowered her head and knew she was going to place another order soon. The only question I have is this: I know a 6.5 gallon primary is preferred, but would a 5 gallon carboy with the fermentap suffice or would the 5G be only for secondary?

6/2/2004 -- How much wine is lost by using the Frementap for syphoning sediment? It seems like it would be hard to stop the sediment extraction at just the right time before clear liquid starts to be lost. I assume one still has to transfer to the fermentor to add chemicals before clearing. Can you provide a step by step process sheet for me to review. Thanks Jerry

4/9/2004 -- Am I correct in assuming that the Fermentap clamps very securely onto the carboy? Also, is there any dripping of the beer during the fermentation? If so how much should I expect?

4/5/2004 -- I am considering on purchasing a Fermentap unit. The one simple question I have is...how difficult or easy to invert the full carboy and place it on its holder...or does one siphon in the wort from the brew kettle directly into the inverted carboy through the spigot?

2/29/2004 -- Im not clear on the racking tube removing the co2. Is there an air lock that attaches to the end? What keeps air from going in the tube when fermentation stops?

2/25/2004 -- How can i dry hop using the fermentap unit?

2/18/2004 -- Hello Will the Fermentap work with your 54L (14 gallon) Demi John? Thanx Andreas

1/2/2004 -- aloha. Does this unit include the inline filter ?

12/22/2003 -- Is it feasible to, and if so.. are there any advantages/disadvantages of using a 6-Gallon Plastic Primary Fermentor vs. a 6.5-Gallon glass carboy with a Fermentap Unit for the fermentation process of Beer? Also how does primary & secondary fermentation fit in the mix?

12/19/2003 -- I am having trouble keeping the temp in the room I am making wine between 70 and 75 degrees as specified in the wine kit I have. I live in Colorado and often the temp at night dips way down, and in the day it can get quite warm. I am not around at all times to adjust the thermastat. Could I solve this problem by wrapping the carboy with an electric blanket or something of the sort? Any suggestions? . . .

12/11/2003 -- can the fermentap unit be used with a 3 1/3 gal carboy?

10/23/2003 -- I noticed most of the malt extract brew kits are 5 gallon batches. Will a 5 gallon carboy be sufficient for fermentation, or will I need a 6 gallon carboy to allow for foaming? Thanks, I'm new to this.

10/3/2003 -- I'm interested in the inverted carboy fermentation setup. Your drawing shows in inverted carboy on a stand with the racking cane inserted. How does the CO2 get out? I assume there's a valve on a hose that connects to the racking cane. If so, then how do I drain off the yeast without pulling the racking cane out? The racking cane will be longer than the stand is tall. I'll hold off on the purchase . . .

7/16/2003 -- If you are making another batch of wine can the drained off sediment (yeast) be used in the next batch?

7/9/2003 -- Where does the sediment go?

7/1/2003 -- How do you keep the stopper from popping out or leaking while inverted for 2 weeks?
