9/9/2011 -- How do we fill these wine bags?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: The easiest way I have found is to simply siphon off from your carboy directly into the bag (remove the spigot first, of course). Use a racking cane, 5/16" siphon tubing and a bottle filler to 'git 'er done'. Links to those products provided below.
11/23/2010 -- I am a first time brewer and I am looking at equipment. i would like to use the 24" racking cane with the 3/8" hose and the 3/8" inch bottle filler. Are these parts compatible?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: We like to use the 5/16" hose between the racking cane and the bottle filler. It's a tight fit, but the hose stretches somewhat and that is what you want.
The 3/8" hose will work, but sometimes it will let a little air in, and you can lose your siphon that way.
5/17/2010 -- what is your phone number?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: We can be reached at (425) 355-8865
Our toll free order is (800) 850-2739
7/21/2009 -- I've gotta say, i love your site, whoever is the webmaster/designer deserves a pat on the back.
(1) If i was to just buy a 3 gallon bottle (the kind you buy at a grocery store to dispense water at home) would i have to worry about flavors from one batch carrying over to another batch?
(2) What size stopper do the one gallon jugs take? . . .
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Thank you. We work hard on our website, and it's nice to hear that it shows!
1) Probably not. As long as it's food grade, it should be good unless you decide to make pickles in it or something silly like that. We can't speak for all plastic water jugs, of course. 3 gallons isn't very big, either. With the foaming that occurs during fermentation . . .
5/28/2009 -- I just made my 1st batch of beer (Diamond Knot IPA). As I was siphoning from the fermentor into the carboy I noticed the red tip had come off. Are ther replacements for these, or do I need to replace the entire racking cane.
I just got the kit and thought it strange it would fall off. By the way love the kit and am looking forward to drinking . . .
Response From Homebrew Heaven: We always have a few extras around. We're happy to send one to you. If you order up another batch, we'll send it along.
With hot summer days coming, how about a nice wheat beer?
9/9/2008 -- will the std 12" racking cane fit in the 1 gallon jugs? thinking about using them for test batches of cider. thanks
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Yes, that is what they are intended for actually.
5/9/2008 -- Would I be able to switch the racking from the delux kit for an auto siphon. Would this be a worth while investment? Is an auto siphon better? Thank you
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Certainly. When you order, just make note that you want this changed for your kit. Simply make note of it in the "Customer Comments" section at checkout. There will be a difference in price, of course.
We like the auto siphon, but not everyone does. Is it better? I would say no, it's just more convenient. Convenience is worth it to some . . .

11/29/2004 -- I am using 2 different size glass carboys. 5 and 6 gal. My question is, what length racking canes will I need for my carboys when using your fermentap system?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: The 24" long racking cane will work just fine.
10/9/2004 -- Sediment...A quirky little nuisance. The racking cane itself; What is the best position INSIDE of the fermentor, (Primary and secodary)to place the racking cane to ensure you leave behind the most possible sediment. And is a carboy with a spigot a better alternative to my sedimentary adventures?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: I like to place the bottom of the racking cane just above teh sediment. With the tip installed, the racking cane actually draws from the top side of the tip. I find this leaves more sediment behind.
A spigot is very hard to put into a glass carboy, and spigots tends to draw a lot of sediment. I like siphoning better.
9/18/2004 -- i am very new, why do u siphon bottom of container what is there that u need to throw away
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Sediment; mostly dead yeast cells, pulp (in fruit wines), proteins, and various other undesirable stuff. It accumulates in the bottom of your fermenter. You want only the good clear stuff, so you siphon it off.
5/8/2004 -- How do I start the siphon using the racking cane?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Place the vessel you are siphoning FROM above the receiving vessel. This is most important!
From there, you can do it several ways:
Fill the racking cane and siphon hose with water from the sink, and hold your finger over the end of the hose so that you can move over the your vessels. Put the racking cane into the "from" vessel and put . . .
12/15/2003 -- What diameter of tubing fits the racking cane?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: The 5/16" ID tubing is recommended, and provides a very tight fit. 3/8" can also be used if you want to remove it regularly.
