10/4/2011 -- I have a 60 quart pot that my wife just bought with a spigot on it. The inner width is 17 1/2 inches. The spigot hole is 1 1/2 inches (center) from the bottom. Will the 12" false bottomwork or do you have something larger? Also how high does the center pipe come up as my spigot is so low. Can it be bent?
Response From Homebrew Heaven: This false bottom is 11 3/4" wide, which will leave about 2.87" of the bottom uncovered on each side. I don't see this as a problem. We do not have a larger false bottom in any case.
The height should also not be a problem. I have my spigot center at 1.75" from the bottom and it works perfectly. We sometimes use a stainless steel hose clamp (or two) to help secure the false bottom into the best postion. We use a 3/8" x 1/2" brass compression fitting to screw the whole thing into the back side of the (thru wall) spigot fitting. Make sure your spigot will accomodate that 1/2" thread.
The draw tube has some room for angle adjustments. It is NOT a good idea to bend the tube however. It is more likely to crimp than to bend.
11/3/2010 -- i currently brew extract...slowly getting what i need for all grain.... i use a converted 15.5 gallon keg,, is this the false bottom you would recommend for a converted keg??
Response From Homebrew Heaven: Yes, this is the one. Be sure to get a brass compression fitting with it (link provided below) so that it will screw into a 1/2" NPT fitting on the keg.
